How to Obtain Fairy Eevee in Pokemon Go

A new, cute, and incredibly powerful fairy-type Pokemon has arrived in Niantic’s mobile game, Pokemon Go. Known as Sylveon, it is a good choice for PvP battles because it can evolve into the Psychic-type Espeon or Dark-type Umbreon. However, getting this special evolution requires some specific steps that aren’t always straightforward.

To evolve an Eevee into either of these two forms, players need to make the Eevee in question their buddy and walk a total of 10km with it, earning at least two candies during that time. They also need to be able to tell whether it is night or day (the in-game time of day should clearly show which). If all these conditions are met, the player can then evolve the Eevee into one of the two aforementioned forms by pressing the ‘Evolve’ button in-game.

This process is similar to how the original eeveelutions, Vaporeon, Jolteon and Flareon, are obtained. Unlike those evolutions, though, the eeveelutions in Pokemon Go do not require their elemental stones or candies to be evolved. In fact, obtaining all of the eeveelutions is easier than ever in Pokemon Go if players follow some simple steps.

The first step to gaining an eeveelution is the most obvious: catching it. This is a straightforward enough task, but it can take some time if players aren’t lucky. Fortunately, there is a trick to speeding up the process.

Players can also specifically evolve their Eevee into Leafeon and Glaceon by using Lure Modules at PokeStops. These are available from the in-game store for 200 coins apiece, or sometimes as rewards for quests. Once the Lure Module has been activated, players should evolve their Eevee at a nearby PokeStop while it is still a buddy. Players should also ensure that the Eevee in question knows a Fairy type move such as Baby Doll Eyes before doing this, as it will otherwise evolve into a Vaporeon, Jolteon or Flareon instead.

Finally, players should be sure to quit and reload the app after evolving their Eevee to make sure the new name has been applied. Once that is done, the eeveelution can then be used as usual in Pokemon Go’s battling and catching mechanics. As a final note, it should be pointed out that at level 40 an Eevee cannot learn any fairy-type moves, as the only TMs and HMs it can get are Dark, Fire Grass and Water Electric. This is why it is essential that players try to evolve their eeveelutions before they reach level 40, and not at any other point. This is especially true for those players who wish to obtain a Sylveon.
