Sleeping Beauty Fairies

A fairy is a magical creature that brings beauty to young girls. It is also known as the Fairy Godmother and is present at a princess’s christening, bringing her gifts of beauty. They are the guardians of the princess and help her grow into a beautiful and wise young woman. The classic fairy tale Sleeping Beauty is the story of a princess who pricks her finger on a spinning wheel and falls into a deep sleep that can only be broken by true love. This story has been retold and read for generations, and it is still as popular today.

A few different versions of the story have as many as thirteen fairies, but the three good fairies Flora, Fauna and Merryweather are the ones who appear in the film Sleeping Beauty. The fairies are the deuteragonists of the movie and band together to protect King Stefan and Queen Leah’s daughter Princess Aurora from their villainous counterpart, Maleficent.

The three good fairies have distinct personalities and work well together to form a fun trio. They are intelligent and have unique powers that make them interesting characters to watch. Unlike the boring Princess Aurora, they are full of life and personality. They also have funny lines that add humor to the movie. In fact, the three fairies get more dialogue and screen time than Princess Aurora and Prince Philip.

In the original Charles Perrault story, the fairies are invited to the princess’s christening and bless her with seven gifts of beauty, wit, grace, song, love, kindness, and finally fidelity. These are given to her by her fairy godmothers, Flora, Fauna, and Merryweather.

However, after the Lilac Fairy mitigates Carabosse’s curse in the prologue, the fairies become concerned about the safety of Princess Aurora. They ponder what to do for the girl’s sake. Merryweather suggests that they reveal their role in putting her into a century-long sleep, but Flora decides that it would break everyone’s heart.

During this time, the fairies discover that the ogress has been hiding in the castle and threatens to eat the Princess. The cook distracts her by serving a hind that is covered in Sauce Robert, satisfying the Ogress and saving the princess’s life.

The fairies are later informed that Maleficent has cast a spell on Princess Aurora. They try to warn her, but she keeps following the fairies like a will-o-the-wisp. Eventually, the fairies realize that they must put everyone in the castle to sleep, including their own son, her betrothed prince, and all of the servants.

Throughout the film, the fairies continue to protect Princess Aurora and her loved ones from the evil Maleficent. In the final battle against her, it is the fairies who enchant Prince Philip’s sword and save the day. Their hard work and bravery deserve recognition and praise. The fairies are one of the most memorable sidekicks in a Disney Princess movie. They are colorful, humorous, and very important to the plot of the movie.
