Fairies, faeries, pixies or whatever you want to call them have fascinated humans for generations. This isn’t just in the fairy book series genre but also reflected in movies and TV shows. These series range from a classic like The Fairies to modern fantasy dramas that take a darker approach to these mythical creatures.
There are a number of fairy series for young kids that combine sparkle and fun with a dose of magic. While these series won’t win any awards for originality, they do offer kids a chance to explore the magical realms of faeries. They can be fast-paced, with cliffhangers that are quickly resolved, but are still mild enough for kids who aren’t ready to explore anything edgier.
One of the most well-known fairy series is the Rainbow Magic books by Cicely Mary Barker, published from 1923 to 1973. This series has a total of 12 volumes, with each volume focusing on the magic of a particular fairy. There are Pet Fairies, Weather Fairies, Sports Fairies, Dance Fairies, Flower Fairies, Animal Fairies and the Magical Animal Fairies.
The books follow the adventures of Rachel and Kirsty, who are chosen by the fairy queens to help with their work. The girls are able to find the magic items that the fairies need, often while doing everyday things like going to school or shopping. In addition to the fairies, there are a number of other characters including Elf, Barnaby and Wizzy. The books can be read out of order and the resolution to the plots aren’t always immediate, but it is still a good option for kids who want to get into reading about fairies.
A more recent take on faeries is the Canadian supernatural series Lost Girl, which stars Bo Dennis as a succubus who feeds off of a human’s life force and sexual energy. The show takes place in the Nether, a realm that exists on the edge between the human world and the fairy world.
Another popular fairy series is the Princess Fairies, starring Kirsty and Rachel and their princess friends. The girls have a special bond with the royal fairies, who are devoted to helping others and have a sense of responsibility to their families and communities. The series has a number of different episodes and is perfect for young kids who love to watch and learn more about the world of royalty.
The Princess Fairies’ tiaras are missing, and the girls need to find them fast! In this episode, the Princess Fairies are spending their week at outdoor adventure camp, where they have to work as junior rangers. Unfortunately, Jack Frost is trying to kidnap all the animals in the reserve and turn them into ice zoos. If the girls don’t find the tiaras, the whole princess kingdom could be in danger.
