Articles about fairy

An imaginary being in diminutive human form, usually conceived to have magical powers and with which they intervene in human affairs. The term is applied to a wide range of supernatural beings whose behavior may be either helpful or harmful to humans. Also known as faerie, fay, and pixie. The -ae spelling is based on the 14th or 15th century spelling of the word, which in turn is derived from the Old English noun far, meaning “farm,” “elf land.” The plural of fairy is faeries. A fairy may be of good or bad nature; a fairy godmother is a good fairy. A brownie or elf suggests a mischievous fairy, while a sprite is a fairy of pleasing appearance: a dainty sprite. Fairies are revered in some forms of modern paganism. The fairy kingdom is a realm of enchantment, illusion, and dream. Also used slangy, disparagingly, as a name for a gay man.
