Fairy Weaknesses in Generation 6

Fairies have become one of the most important Pokemon types in the meta since their introduction in Generation 6, and with good reason – they can be very powerful. However, the little creatures do have a few weaknesses that players should be aware of in order to properly counter them. In this article, we’ll go over all the Pokemon that are weak against fairy attacks and why, so you can be ready for them when they appear on the battlefield.

Strong against Fighting: The reasoning behind this isn’t entirely clear, but it seems as if the Fairy Force has the same effect on Fighting-types that psychic energy does. This confuses their brain and emotions, preventing them from acting on their aggression and therefore significantly limiting the damage they can deal in battle.

Weak against Steel: Fairies are incredibly susceptible to Steel-type moves because the metals in these attacks deflect the energy they are using, making them much weaker than they otherwise would be. Thankfully, there are two Pokemon in the game that can reliably deal with this type of attack – Crobat and Metagross. Both of these Pokemon have a very wide move pool and are very tanky, so they can easily absorb a few blows from a Fairy before finally getting a chance to lay waste to it.

Super effective against Dragon: Probably the most important weakness to be aware of, because it’s pretty clear that the Fairy type was added primarily for its efficacy against the mighty Dragon Pokemon. They deal super-effective damage against Dragons, while they also take no damage from draconic attacks.

This makes them an extremely useful counter to any tier 1 Dragon Pokemon, especially if you have a specialized team built around one of them like Hydreigon or Shedinja. The only downside to this is that the two most popular Pokemon that are weak to fairy attacks are Poison and Steel, which are arguably some of the least used Pokemon in the game. Still, with some strategic planning, you can make sure that any Fairy-type Pokemon you encounter is no match for your team.
